From February 1998 to March 2006, he was Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) based in Nairobi. |
 | Dr. Gabriele Krone-Schmalz An acclaimed journalist, Dr. Krone-Schmalz worked as TV reporter for many years in, among other places, Moscow and New York. For several years now, her work has focused on the interrelationship between government, business and civil society. Her German-language publication entitled "Wir können es schaffen" (We can make it) deals with the current social difficulties in the Federal Republic of Germany, and discusses approaches to problem-solving. |

From 1991 to 1996 he held various management positions with Bilfinger Berger's international subsidiaries before being appointed to the Executive Board in 1997.
