Participation of local residents key to success:
Copenhagen's exemplary urban development project honored

The Holmbladsgade district of Copenhagen is the winner of the Bilfinger Berger Award 2009. In this area, decisions on investments in social infrastructure and in the modernization of residential buildings, roads and squares were largely made by the residents themselves. This meant that the successful development of the former problem area was accompanied by a high degree of acceptance among the people who live there.

City of the Future
All around the globe, experts are looking for concepts for the "city of the future". The Bilfinger Berger Award supports this process. It recognizes outstanding concepts and projects that are making history in other countries and which could give German cities a new impetus for the future.
What makes a winner
The Kvarterløft program in Holmbladsgade succeeded in saving a troubled area from further decline and in turning the development trend around into a positive direction. The success of resident participation in Holmbladsgade provides an example for the future trend in public administration.
