In 2007, for the first time, people living in cities outnumbered those living in rural areas. All around the globe, experts are looking for concepts for the "city of the future". German cities also face major challenges brought on by changes in urban living conditions. We must start developing solutions for the city of tomorrow today. The Bilfinger Berger Award supports this process. It recognizes outstanding concepts and projects that are making history in other countries and which could give German cities a new impetus for the future.
Environmentally friendly, digitally networked or car-free: how will the city of tomorrow look? What concepts will succeed in solving the problems of German cities? Visionary technologies and ideas may put the car of the future on tracks, transport goods underground or residential areas high up in the sky.
Do residential areas where people from different social groups live together have a future? What will the coexistence of immigrants, singles, those with low-incomes and families look like in the next generation? Will they live in buildings that produce their own energy?
The Bilfinger Berger Award supports the import of ideas for German cities
With this international competition, Bilfinger Berger, the global construction and services company, seeks practical solutions for "the city of tomorrow between social reality and creative vision". Individuals with project responsibility are called upon to submit concepts that have been implemented successfully abroad. The goal of the competition is to develop these projects for Germany and promote the exchange of ideas.
